ROLLER BLINDS
What are roller blinds? Basically, they can be defined as window blinds made from a stiffened fabric attached to a timber or aluminium roller. Roller blinds can be spring-loaded, adjusted with a chain mechanism. The basic definition of roller blinds doesn’t do them justice, though. There are so many styles to choose from, one roller blind will bear no resemblance to another. If you think you know what roller blinds are, read on. You may be surprised by the array of choices you have today.
Types of Roller Blinds
In the past, all roller blinds totally blocked out light. To allow some light in the room, you adjusted the height of the blinds. Today, you have more choices:
- Blockout blinds are available in far more colours and styles than in the past.
- Light filter roller blinds allow filtered light to enter the room.
- Sunscreen roller blinds filter out harsh UV radiation and allow greater outdoor visibility than light filter blinds.
- Bonded roller blinds have fabric “bonded” to the surface of the blinds.
Blockout blinds can have a coloured or patterned appearance. The difference between a patterned blockout and a bonded roller blind is that the bonded blind has a soft fabric cover that may be more appropriate in a living room or more formal setting.
